LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – I checked the Associated Press college football Top 25. I scanned the coaches’ poll, too. I always examine Jeff Sagarin’s computer rankings.

Then I put together my Top 25. You can decide who’s right – and who’s wrong.

  1. Ohio State (1 last week) – Nothing to see here. Keep moving. Check back in November.
  2. Alabama (2) – Ole Miss has looked pretty good averaging 74.5 points per game, right? Pretty good is not enough. The Rebels are seven-point underdogs in Tuscaloosa Saturday.
  3. TCU (3) – The Buckeyes and Crimson Tide might make the playoffs even if they lose one game. Don’t think TCU can.
  4. USC (4) – Steve Sarkisian and his players keep doing their talking on field – which is a smart strategy, especially for the coach.
  5. Michigan State (5) – Had to beat Oregon. Did beat Oregon. Have to beat Ohio State and Michigan. It never ends for Sparty.
  6. Baylor (6) – Check the Bears’ schedule. They shouldn’t be threatened until November.
  7. Georgia (7) – Favored by 17 against South Carolina so you know what they'll say if Mark Richt only wins by 10.
  8. Notre Dame (8) – I wasn’t sure the Irish could beat Georgia Tech this Saturday with a healthy Malik Zaire.
  9. Florida State (10) – Halfback Dalvin Cook averaging 211 yards per game. The surprise is that’s only second in the country – to Ray Lawry of Old Dominion.
  10. Louisiana State (12) – The Tigers have a valuable credential – a conference road win.
  11. Oregon (11) – Vernon Adams Jr. is a nice quarterback but he’s not Marcus Mariota.
  12. Clemson (13) – I’m eager to see how many Clemson fans make the trip to Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium Thursday night.
  13. UCLA (14) – The Bruins host Brigham Young. It might be the Must See game on the schedule this weekend.
  14. Ole Miss (15) – Unless you think Ole Miss at Alabama is better.
  15. Oklahoma (16) – Bob Stoops needed a prime-time win. Now he only needs 10 more.
  16. Georgia Tech (18) – Check that. Georgia Tech at Notre Dame might be the best game on the schedule.
  17. Brigham Young (25) – What’s the over/under on most improbable wins in one season?
  18. Miami (19) – Nobody else likes the Hurricanes. They have a lot of injuries. That’s OK. I’ll be different.
  19. Utah (20) – Sleeper pick in the Pac-12.
  20. Texas A&M (22) – The Aggies should be 5-0 when they host Alabama Oct. 17.
  21. Auburn (9) – Not impressed with this Auburn quarterback who was in the Heisman talk before the season. He won’t be in New York City in December.
  22. Northwestern (23) – Still getting credit for stuffing Stanford.
  23. Temple (NR) – Still getting credit for stuffing Penn State and Cincinnati.
  24. Houston (NR) -- Check the Cougars' schedule. They're on a fast track to 8-0.
  25. Toledo (NR) – Urban Meyer called and asked me to include the Rockets on my list, even though there’s nothing special about winning at Arkansas. Right Bret Bielama.

DROPPED OUT: Arkansas, Tennessee, Boise State.
