Mother of four says family's clothes were stolen from a Shively laundromat

LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Crystal Hardesty walks to Coin Laundry on Rockford Lane once a week to wash her family's clothes. But she says over the weekend, she went to the laundromat with four loads of laundry and left empty handed.

"I brought clothes down here and threw them in the washer. I was running back. I mean I live right down here so I was running back and forth and I came down and put quarters in the dryer and went to the store and came right back. I wasn't gone ten minutes and when I came in all my stuff was gone,” said Crystal Hardesty.

The mother of four says hundreds of dollars worth of clothes and towels was taken.

“Every towel in the house is gone, all the kids' school clothes -- I have four kids in school clothes -- work clothes, towels, you name it. It's gone,” Hardesty told WDRB.

She says it happened Saturday night around 9 and there was only one other person at the laundromat at that time.

“A lady said a guy came in with long dreads and picked them up and put them in his car and drove off,” she said.

Hardesty says that witness didn't realize she was watching a thief in the act.

"I don't know if someone was watching the parking lot. I have no idea,” said Hardesty.

Hardesty is still hopeful it may have been an accident. She put signs up at the laundromat hoping her items will be returned. The business has surveillance cameras but images weren't made available to us.

Hardesty filed a police report in hopes of finding the suspect and her family's missing clothes. Officers at the Shively Police Department are investigating the theft but said so far they don't have any suspects.

If you know anything about the crime, you're asked to call Shively Police.
