LEXINGTON, Ky. (WDRB) – The streak busters are back on the job.
One week after ending a 22-game road losing streak, the Cats (2-0, 1-0 SEC) look to end a 28-game losing streak against the Florida Gators (2-0) Saturday night at Commonwealth Stadium.
“That streak really doesn't bother me,” said Stoops Monday at his weekly press conference. “Somebody asked me if I’m going to touch on it, or rant and rave, there’s nothing to talk about on that."
Now hold on.
Stoops had said similar sentiments about his team’s long standing road losing streak, only to admit his real feelings Saturday, moments after his team’s win over South Carolina.
This time Stoops insists, he’s telling the truth.
"I really, I can’t speak to that to the 28 years," said Stoops. "I can only speak to the years that I’ve been here and like I said we need to just worry about ourselves."
And there are concerns. Stoops says he has to remind his players not to get overconfident at the team's early success.
"They’re young guys in a lot of situations and I love them, but a lot of them are very immature."
Another concern for Stoops was a second straight lackluster second half offensive performance. Stoops says that has to change starting Saturday against Florida.
"You can’t talk your way around wins, you just have to get better and continue to push forward," said Stoops. "That’s what we are looking forward to this week."
Kickoff is Saturday night at 7:30 from Commonwealth Stadium.
