LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Former University of Louisville forward Montrezl Harrell remains in NBA limbo. But back in Louisville for a brief time to work out before going back to Houston, he had a heroic encounter.

According to U of L sports information director Kenny Klein, when Harrell ran upon a car accident on campus Saturday night, Harrell, along with others, helped to kick in the window, pull the motorist out of the overturned, smoking vehicle and ran to a nearby business to get a fire extinguisher.

Klein said Harrell stayed with the driver until fire crews arrived.

No further details were immediately available.

A U of L student, Aaron Vance, tells WDRB he was at PNC near 3rd and Cardinal when the wreck happened. "I was at the other side at the ATM and ran over to the scene once we heard the wreck happen. That is when we saw Trez first on the scene helping to break the glass and getting the person out of the car," Vance recalled.

Harrell is close to signing a three-year deal with the Houston Rockets, several outlets reported today. He was the 32nd overall pick in the draft.

Harrell was in Louisville briefly last week and worked out in U of L’s basketball facilities, but returned to Houston this week.
