POLICE: Two Louisville men arrested in connection with sexual assault

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested two men in connection with a sexual assault.

According to arrest reports, police met with the victim at University Hospital. The woman allegedly told police that 45-year-old Arthur C. Powers picked her up to meet 46-year-old Leon A. Smith for lunch. They drove a short distance and found Smith standing on the sidewalk. At that point, she said they drove to the home of one of the men.

As they approached the house, Smith began hitting the woman. Once inside, Powers allegedly used duct tape to restrain and silence the woman. Police say her clothes were removed and she was beaten by the men.

According to the arrest reports, she was sodomized.

Some time later, Smith told Powers to watch the woman while he left, arrest reports state. Powers allegedly put the woman's bloody clothes into a trash bag, then went into the basement, leaving the woman alone.

At that point, police say the woman jumped through a window, and ran for help.

She suffered several injuries from the assault, according to arrest reports.

Powers was arrested on Sept. 13, just after 1:30 a.m. Smith was taken into custody at 11:15 on Sept. 15 after an arrest warrant was issued. Both men are charged with first degree sodomy, kidnapping, first degree assault and tampering with physical evidence.
