POLICE: Accused gym thief is caught because he forgot to log off Facebook

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Officials say an accused thief snuck into a Lexington gym, but forgot to close his Facebook account.

Police say Russell Sipe logged onto Facebook at the 24/7 Workout Anytime Fitness Center and never logged out.

Sipe allegedly stole a set of keys, $10 and a credit card, according to officials.

The gym is filled with security cameras.

"It was when we finally sat down at the computer to see what was going on, that we realized he left his Facebook open and decided to tell the public that 'hey I'm breaking into Workout Anytime'," said Eric Cowden, the gym's owner.

Officers later arrested Sipe for burglary.

He did not have a gym membership, but was a former member.

Authorities say someone let him in on the night of the alleged theft.
