Rand Paul foots bill for early Republican presidential caucus in Kentucky

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Rand Paul has made good on his promise to foot the bill for an early Republican presidential caucus in Kentucky.

The state party says Paul secured the $250,000 it requested to cover costs for a caucus on March 5. It will replace the normal presidential primary.

The move allows Paul to run for president in Kentucky and appear on the ballot for re-election to his U.S. Senate seat.

State party leaders voted last month to hold the caucus, if Paul could meet the conditions. Kentucky's delegates to the national convention would be allocated in proportion to the outcome of the caucus.
