LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Ford Motor Co. plans a relatively small expansion of its Kentucky Truck Plant in eastern Jefferson County, according to a plan filed Monday with Louisville Metro Planning and Design.

The company filed an application to add 288,715 square feet to the plant -- which is just under 5 percent of the plant's current footprint, 5.8 million square feet.

The plant sits on 413 acres at 3001 Chamberlain Lane. Ford declined to say why it's expanding the plant.

"We cannot discuss future manufacturing or product plans," said Judd Templin, a regional Ford spokesman.

Ford makes Super Duty pickup trucks, the Expedition and the Lincoln Navigator at the plant.

Monday's expansion plan comes a week after Ford filed a separate plan to add a 20,000-square-foot "ITR Shop Building" to the rear of the plant.

Todd Dunn, president of UAW Local 862 -- which represents about 4,100 hourly workers at Kentucky Truck Plant -- said the ITR building is for service vehicles like forklifts and other "industrial tool repair."

As for the larger expansion of the plant, Dunn said he had no immediate information on the project.
