Kentucky Secretary of State's office to launch online voter registration program

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It will soon be easier for more Kentuckians to register to vote.

According to Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, only two-thirds of eligible Kentucky residents are registered to vote. Her office is launching a new program to try to increase that number. It will make it possible for everyone to register and update their voter registration online.

Grimes says it should be ready by the 2016 presidential elections.

"We have 700 overseas and military voters that are already using our military portal to register and update their registration online," Grimes said. "If it can work for our voters in Iraq, it will work for our voters here."

The cost for expanding online registration will be paid for through federal funding.
