LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – No, I have not abandoned college football season after a flurry of defeats last weekend.

I simply stopped at a bookstore Tuesday and grabbed a handful of college basketball magazines.

Here is what they’re saying about Louisville, Kentucky and Indiana.

LOUISVILLE CARDINALS

Highest rating: Lindy’s ranks Rick Pitino’s team 17th in the nation.

Lowest rating: The Sporting News does not rank the Cardinals in the Top 25. Athlon says 23rd.

Conference rating: Lindy’s and Athlon place the Cardinals fourth, behind the Atlantic Coast Conference Big Three of North Carolina, Duke and Virginia. Better not spend your $7.99 on The Sporting News yearbook. TSN has the Cards eighth, behind Miami and Florida State, among others in the league. Eighth?

Cover Shot: Mangok Mathiang shares the front of the local edition of Lindy’s Yearbook with Tyler Ulis of Kentucky.

Star of the show: Damion Lee, who arrived from Drexel, is ranked the second-best transfer who is immediately eligible by Lindy’s. The only player ahead of Lee is Sterling Gibbs, who bolted Seton Hall for UConn.

Breakout performer: Lindy’s predicts that Chinanu Onuaku will emerge at center, ranking him the 11th best post player in the nation.

Warning sign: All three magazines note the Cardinals lack any proven returning scorers. The Sporting News does not include any U of L players in the Top 10 in the ACC.

Recruiting rating: Athlon ranks Louisville’s class seventh best in the nation, second to only Duke in the ACC.

KENTUCKY WILDCATS

Highest rating: Athlon ranks UK first in America, ahead of Duke and North Carolina.

Lowest rating: Lindy’s ranks UK third. The Sporting News says second.

Conference rating: The Wildcats are the pick to win the Southeastern Conference by all three magazines. Look for Louisiana State to finish second.

Cover Shot: Ulis is featured by Lindy’s while teammate Alex Poythress, mended from knee surgery, is featured on the front of the area edition of The Sporting News.

Star of the show: Take your pick: Tyler Ulis and Marcus Lee are expected to emerge among the veterans with Jamal Murray, Isaiah Briscoe and Skal Labissiere leading the way for the freshmen.

Breakout performer: Athlon ranks Labissiere, the freshman center, a second-team all-American. The Sporting News calls him the best player in the SEC and a second-team all-American.

Warning sign: Replacing the seven guys who are about to begin work at NBA training camps.

Recruiting rating: Lindy’s ranks Kentucky class second best in America, trailing only Duke.

INDIANA HOOSIERS

Highest rating: IU was ranked fourth nationally, behind Maryland, North Carolina and UK by Lindy’s, but that was before the dismissal of Emmitt Holt

Lowest rating: Athlon ranks the Hoosiers 17th. The Sporting News says 15th.

Conference rating: Lindy’s and The Sporting News like Indiana second in the Big Ten (behind Maryland). Athlon has Tom Crean’s team fourth, behind the Terps, Michigan State and Purdue.

Cover Shot: Yogi Ferrell, the Hoosiers’ senior point guard, is looking for an open teammate on the Athlon cover.

Star of the show: Ferrell sits on the second all-America team with The Sporting News and Athlon.

Breakout performer: Lindy’s picks Troy Williams, IU’s junior forward, as the Most Entertaining Player in the Big Ten as well as one of the Top 10 players in the league.

Warning sign: The Hoosiers have to prove they are willing and able to defend.

Recruiting rating: Lindy’s ranks the Indiana class of Thomas Bryant, Juwan Morgan and OG Anunoby the 14th best in the nation.
