LMPD arrest father and son accused of kidnapping, beating man
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police say they've arrested two men -- a father and his son -- after they assaulted a man they say had tools that had been stolen from their van.
Police say that late Tuesday evening, 911 dispatchers received a call from the wife of one of the suspects, 55-year-old David Highbaugh, that a man was being restrained on S. Crums Lane, near Greenwell Lane.
When they arrived, officers allegedly found 55-year-old David Highbaugh and 28-year-old Dereck Highbaugh sitting in the driveway with a man who was tied up with nylon restraints. Police say the victim was barefoot and partially nude, with a deep bleeding laceration over his left eye and several bruises on his body.
The victim appeared to have urinated on himself, according to police.
Officers say the victim had been beaten with a 2" x 4" piece of wood that had broken from the force of the beating.
The man allegedly told officers that David Highbaugh had put a gun to his head and tied him up while Dereck Highbaugh beat him.
According to arrest reports, it all started when David Highbaugh and Dereck Highbaugh saw the man trying to sell some hand tools that the Highbaughs had reported stolen from David Highbaugh's truck.
The victim was taken to the hospital for immediate medical attention.
Both David and Dereck Highbaugh were arrested and charged with kidnapping. Dereck Highbaugh was charged with second degree assault. David Highbaugh was charged with first degree wanton endangerment.
As of Wednesday morning, David Highbaugh was being housed in Louisville Metro Corrections. His son, Dereck Highbaugh, was not listed on the jail docket.
