HILLVIEW, Ky (WDRB) -- Some Bullitt County residents are concerned about the plans for a methadone clinic to be built near their homes.

There are already stakes in the Hillview property marking where the clinic would be built, but the businessman who owns the property says if residents are that concerned, he won't go through with it.

The property is at the entrance of Hebron Woods subdivision in Bullitt County and when residents recently heard the plans, they weren't happy.

"It would draw a lot of clientele that would not be good for this area,” said Tom Millay.

Millay said when he heard about it, he immediately called Kenny Hester, the property owner. Millay knows Hester personally because he sold the property to him in 2011.

"I sold it to him because the person he is and I told him at that time I thought he would do the right thing,” Millay told WDRB.

Millay says Hester didn't realize how upset the residents would be but now that he knows, he's pulling away from the plan.

“He said well if you're not in for it and other people aren't I won’t do it,” explained Millay.

A methadone clinic treats those who are recovering from opiate addiction. Hillview Mayor Jim Eadens told WDRB he's for a methadone clinic but thinks it shouldn't be built so close to a residential area.

“I don't doubt we need it but I think there's a place for it. I don't think you put it at a residential entrance,” Millay said.

Hester wasn't available for an on camera interview but told WDRB the deal is off.

"He said he would call it off if that's what the people wanted,” said Millay.

Millay said he’d like to see an assisted living facility built on the property.

There's a public meeting on the topic at the Hillview Government Center on Monday at 5:30.
