Michael Davis, 66, was found murdered in his downtown apartment on Sept. 14. Michael Davis, 66, was found murdered in his downtown apartment on Sept. 14.

LOUISVILLE, Ky (WDRB) -- Michael Davis was retired.

He had lived on the 16th floor of the Blanton House, a senior living apartment complex in downtown Louisville, for about six years.

"He really liked it there. He said it was nice and the people were friendly and everything there,” said his sister.

But the 66-year-old was found dead in his apartment on Monday, Sept. 14.

Davis's sister, who didn't feel comfortable revealing her identity, says her brother wasn't married and didn't have any children.

She says he was a nomad most of his life.

"He lived in Colorado, California, Florida, just all the way around. He just didn't stay in one place very long,” she told WDRB.

His sister would visit him at least once a week to drive him to the grocery store.

The last time she saw him was four days before his body was found.

“He was a nice man. He really was.He liked to play bingo. He'd go out on Dixie Highway,” she said.

She has been collecting his belongings.

"It's like here's a part of your history. Let me take it away from you,” she said.

Now she’s trying to figure out what to do next.

"I had to tell our 87-year-old mother her only son had passed away. That was not the easiest thing I've ever done,” she said.

Police wouldn't say if the Blanton House has surveillance video, and the staff there had no comment.

Lt. Todd Kessinger with LMPD's Homicide Unit couldn't say how Davis died.

"Anytime a murder occurs behind closed doors or without a lot of information we try to protect that and not release the cause of death to protect the integrity of the case,” Kessinger told WDRB.

"We can only pray that detectives find out who did this so they don't do it to anyone else. I just don't want anyone else hurt the way he was,” said Davis’s sister.

Police have not released a motive.
