LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Metro Council approves a plan to expand the boundaries of downtown Louisville.

Members voted to extend the Downtown Management District to stretch past Ninth Street all the way to 12th Street.

Being in that district means the area will receive a face lift, plus marketing and event services.

Business pushed  for the boundary change hoping it would spur growth. Working with the Louisville Downtown Partnership, a group of businesses got the ball rolling to be included.

Primarily, properties in the district will receive help in beautification services as well as marketing and events. Proponents say the biggest challenge is changing the perception of the ‘Ninth Street Divide.’

In order to pay for the improvements, all property owners in the area are subject to a non-voluntary assessment on top of existing property taxes.
