Ky. state senator wants rape kits tested within 90 days of submission

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A state senator from Louisville wants speedier testing of rape kits.

On Monday, state Auditor Adam Edelen released a report that found there are more than 3,000 untested kits scattered across Kentucky.

Senator Denise Harper Angel is now proposing a bill that would require police agencies to submit rape kits for analysis within 10 days. Labs would be required to conduct the tests within 90 days.

Right now, the average turnaround time is eight months.

Harper-Angel says she'll also push for more funding for the state police crime lab.
