LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – I’m not trying to beat the Associated Press and USA Today coaches’ college football Top 25 polls into the news cycle.

I’m just trying to help the voters (especially the coaches) do their jobs better.

1. Ohio State (4-0, 2 last week) – Back on top for the Buckeyes, who figure to find another gear when they start Big Ten play at Indiana Saturday.

2. Utah (4-0, 17) – Knee jerk selection? Guilty. But nobody beats Oregon at home the way the Utes did it. And that Michigan win looks  better every week.

3. Mississippi (4-0, 1) – I don’t care what Brent Musburger said Saturday night. Struggling to beat Vanderbilt is not a good thing.

4. Michigan State (4-0, 3) – The Spartans have exhibitions with Purdue and Rutgers before starting Big Ten play at Michigan Oct. 17.

5. Baylor (3-0, 5) – Beat some team by a million Saturday. I don’t remember the name.

6. Georgia (4-0, 6) – Alabama in Athens at 3:30 p.m. Saturday. Be there.

7. TCU (4-0, 3) – The Horned Frogs have allowed 89 points the last two Saturdays. Impressive.

8. Notre Dame (4-0, 7) – ESPN College GameDay wants to see if the Fighting Irish can win at unbeaten Clemson Saturday. So do I.

9/ Florida State (3-0, 8) – The Seminoles will tune up against Wake Forest and Miami before hosting Louisville Oct. 17.

10. Louisiana State (3-0, 9) – Hurry. Get to ESPN right now. Leonard Fournette just ran for another 67 yards and a touchdown. He shouldn’t have to stay in college a third season.

11. UCLA (4-0, 11) – Pat Forde of Yahoo Sports says the Bruins are legitimate national championship contenders. I’m starting to believe him.

12. Clemson (3-0, 12) – Have to like the Tigers’ chances against the Fighting Irish on 16 days preparation.

13. Oklahoma (3-0, 13) – We’ll lose another unbeaten Saturday when the Sooners play West Virginia.

14. Alabama (3-1, 14) – The Crimson Tide will officially disappear from the national title debate if they lose at Georgia.

15. USC (3-1, 15) – Why didn’t USC play as ferociously against Stanford as they did against Arizona State?

16. Miami (3-0, 16) – You forgot the Hurricanes were around, didn’t you?

17. Texas A&M (4-0, 18) – The Aggies’ next three are interesting? Mississippi State, Alabama and Ole Miss.

18. Michigan (3-1, NR) – The Jim Harbaugh Factor already in bloom. This Harbaugh-Urban Meyer stuff is going to be fun.

19. Northwestern (4-0, 20) – I should have subtracted points for the struggle against Ball State but the Stanford win keeps looking better.

20. Temple (3-0, 21) – For at least another week.

21. Toledo (3-0, 22) – Ditto.

22. California (4-0, 24) – Sonny Dykes is doing good work in Berkeley. Really.

23. Oklahoma State (4-0, NR) – Mike Gundy should send Charlie Strong a fruit basket.

24. Stanford (3-1, NR) – The Cardinal will be asking themselves about that Northwestern game for another month.

25. Memphis (4-0, NR) – The offense is real, even if the competition hasn’t been.

DROPPED OUT: Oregon, Georgia Tech, Arizona, BYU.
