Whole Foods cutting about 1,500 jobs

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Grocery store chain Whole Foods is cutting about 1,500 jobs.

The reduction equates to about 1.6 percent of the company's workforce.

The cuts are expected to happen over the next eight weeks.

Whole Foods say the cuts will help the company lower prices and stay competitive.

The company says many workers will find other jobs from the almost 2,000 open positions across the company.

New jobs will also be created by more than 100 new stores currently in development.

Whole Foods received criticism when New York City officials found it was overcharging customers.
