LEXINGTON, KY. (WDRB) – Jojo Kemp’s performance in the win over Missouri earned him a promotion. After rushing for 66 yards Saturday, Kemp was moved up UK’s depth chart as the team’s top running back ahead of Stanley "Boom" Williams.
“Jojo was the guy that did some things in the game and he deserves an opportunity,” said UK head coach Mark Stoops at his weekly Monday press conference.
Stoops said Kemp’s promotion was due to his performance but also added he needed to talk to Williams following a quiet night Saturday. Williams rushed for 21 yards, 86 yards below his season average heading into Saturday’s game.
“I guess I am not insinuating there is an issue, but there could be I guess. We will look at it.”
UK (3-1, 2-1 SEC) will now turn its attention to Eastern Kentucky (2-1, 1-0 OVC) Saturday. The two teams have only played each other three times but make no mistake, there is or at least was bad blood between them. Stoops acknowledged the off the field runs-ins this offseason but said Monday, there’s no place for it now.
“It needs to be addressed and we will address it and talk about it on our end that is for sure,” said Stoops. “Once the game starts, I will have little tolerance. If I see any of that stuff, then they are not going to play.”
One person who Stoops says will play some for the Cats is backup quarterback Drew Barker. If you recall, Barker took a punch from EKU defensive lineman Patrick Graffree at an Eastern Kentucky dorm. The incident was captured on video.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium.
