LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- St. Xavier's dominant group of Seniors moved one step closer to a second-straight State Golf Championship by winning the school's fourth consecutive Region 6 Title Monday during calm, dry conditions at Midland Trail Golf Club. St. X shot a five-under 283 as a team to win by 14 strokes.
Tiger Senior left-hander Billy Basham birdied his last two holes to close out a four-under 68 and take medalist honors. His teammate Matt Liston shot a two-under 70 to share second place with North Oldham's Mason Lenhart. Drew Kiehl of St. X took third with an even-par 72, while another Tiger Senior Allen Hamilton had a one-over 73, tied for fifth with three others; Christian Academy's Hayden Zimmerer, and Ballard teammates Anuj Chhabra and Dominic Ramsey. Ballard's team total of 297 was good for second place and the other team berth in next week's state tournament in Bowling Green.
Along with Michael Sass, who shot a 75, all five St. X golfers were part of last year's 27-shot romp in the State Tourney as Juniors. All five have been medalists in tournaments this season as Seniors. The top four scores count as the team score.
Christian Academy shot a 304 for third place. North Oldham and Trinity each finished at 307 tying for fourth.
Trinity Freshman Evan Bone won a playoff over KCD's Colin Ferguson for the 3rd and last individual spot in the state tournament. They each shot two-over 74's.
The State Tournament is October 6th and 7th at Bowling Green Country Club.
