LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- An Elizabethtown man is charged with criminal abuse after police say he beat his own four-year-old.

According to an arrest warrant, Elizabethtown Police were called to Hardin Memorial Hospital on the night of Aug. 26 to investigate a report of child abuse.

Police say that the mother of 27-year-old Duke Truax, Jr. had contacted authorities to tell them that her son was abusing her grandchildren.

She allegedly told officers that Truax and had recently arrived home at their residence on North Black Branch Road with his two children, ages four and three. While they were there, the children's grandmother allegedly noticed bruising under the eye of the four-year-old. When she asked Truax about it, she said he told her not to worry about it.

Later, when she gave her grandchildren a bath, she found two additional bruises on the four-year-old's back, according to police. Again, she questioned Truax, and again, police say Truax told her not to worry about it.

In private, police say the children told her that Truax had hit the four-year-old, causing the bruises.

Police say they examined the child and saw "bruises that showed finger separation" on the child's left cheek, just under his eye. Officers also say they saw, "multiple markings and bruises" on his back.

The child told officers that the bruises hurt, according to court documents.

A warrant was issued for Truax's arrest on Sept. 28, and he was taken into custody later that day.

He is charged with one count of second degree criminal abuse.
