Developers get approval to turn old Jeffersonville school into Marriott hotel

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Jeffersonville has found a new use for an empty school sitting at the base of the Big Four Bridge.

Developers got the approval they needed from the city Tuesday night to turn the former Rose Hill Elementary building on Maple Street into a Marriott Towne Place hotel.

"One of the biggest components of our strategy was to create an anchor for downtown," said Eric Goodman with Arc Companies. "I think that's what we lack right now. We need to bring business downtown. This will help some of the merchants, some of the restaurants on Spring Street."

The developer says the facade of the hotel will fit the character of the neighborhood and would bring up to 45 new jobs.

Work is expected to start in the spring with an opening date of March 2017.
