LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man for murder after a fatal stabbing near Preston Highway.

It happened around 6:45 a.m. in the 5100 block of Crafty Drive, near Preston Highway and Gilmore Lane.

LMPD spokesperson Dwight Mitchell says officers with LMPD's 6th Division responded to a trouble run at Preston Oaks Apartments.

Lt. Todd Kessinger of Louisville Metro Police says three men -- two of whom are brothers -- lived at the apartment. One of those men was 33-year-old Alune Badu. According to Kessinger, Badu stabbed one of the other men, without warning.

"From what we’ve able to gather, it was an unprovoked attack to where one roommate stabbed and killed the other roommate, and the third person in that apartment complex was able to take the knife away from the suspect and call the police," Kessinger said. "That suspect did kind of somewhat barricade himself into the apartment, but once the officers got on scene, they were able to talk him into coming out."

"That was a situation that could have escalated, and they were able to get to the scene and talk to the suspect about giving up and coming out," he added.

Badu is charged with murder.
