Carrollton woman accused of severely beating child

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Carrollton, Kentucky, woman has been arrested after Kentucky State Police say she severely beat a little girl.

According to an arrest warrant, the incident took place on Sept. 1. Police say 38-year-old Amy Ellis beat the girl -- who is under the age of 12 -- "about the face and head, both critical areas of the body, causing severe bruising on the child's ears, blackened eyes and petechia to eyes and ears, and assaulting her about the abdomen and lower extremity, causing marks."

Calling the actions, "torture and cruel punishment," police add that they, "placed said child in a situation that may cause her serious physical injury."

A warrant was issued for Ellis' arrest on Thursday, Sept. 3. She was arrested in Louisville by Louisville Metro Police and charged with first degree criminal abuse of a child under 12.

She is currently being held in the Carroll County Detention Center.
