Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass prepares to open new stores, fill jobs

Posted: Updated:

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Several new stores will soon open at the Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass and the mall says it has hundreds of jobs to fill.

From the ground to the ceiling, things are starting to come together outside and inside the new stores.

Wesley Dickson and his family traveled to Simpsonville from Glasgow Wednesday to check out what's already there.

"We're coming to do some shopping," Dickson said. "We're on fall break so we have not been up to this shopping outlet mall and heard a lot of good things about it."

The new stores could help bring in even more shoppers.

H&M, Express, Abercrombie and Fitch, Maurice's and Johnny Rockets are among the new options.

"The first kind of wave of stores opening up will be towards the end of October," said Lucy George, marketing director for Outlet Shoppes of the Bluegrass.

She says all of them will open by mid-November. Vans will move in next year.

Simpsonville's Mayor Steve Eden says the outlet mall helps bring other businesses into the city too.

He expects Zaxby's and McDonald's to break ground soon and says thanks to extra revenue, property taxes have dropped over the past two years.

"It's great for the economy locally," George said. "Stores are looking to fill jobs, so come to the job fair."

The mall is hosting a job fair inside the food court next Tuesday.

New employers aren't just moving in, the holiday shopping season is also around the corner.

"There's gonna be hundreds of new jobs including our new stores are looking for people to hire as well as our existing stores," George told WDRB News.

It's another boost for Simpsonville that even out-of-towners recognize.

"Anytime you see any development like this, it's good," Dickson said. "Especially in our area and our state."

If you do decide to head to the job fair, make sure you're dressed business casual and bring a resume.

It will run from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Stores will offer on-site interviews.
