Hardin and Bullitt County schools showing progress; Oldham Co. still a top district

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- There's a lot to celebrate for Hardin County Schools when it comes to state test scores.

On Thursday, the superintendent announced the school district had received a "Proficient" status for the third year in a row

"Three high schools, five middle schools and 13 elementary, but 12 elementary schools that are actually involved in this performance accountability," said Hardin Co. Superintendent Nannette Johnston.

This places Hardin County’s school district in the 87th percentile of the state's school districts.

The proficiency status goes to the top 30 percent of school districts.

Half of the Hardin County schools involved in the testing earned a proficient or distinguished status.

"All three of our high schools scored as distinguished. This is the first time in the history of one of our high schools: North Hardin High School. It is now a distinguished high school," said Nannette Johnston.

North Hardin is now ranked 46th in the state.

The district has also seen growth in graduation rates overall, as well as college and career readiness.

"Our CCR rate in 2009 -- we were at 31, and last year 64.5, and this year we're at 72.2, which does exceed the state goal," said Nannette Johnston.

School officials say they still have work to do to continue to raise all scores.

Also making progress is Bullitt County Schools, which increased its results and for the third year was named a "Proficient" district.

For the first time, all three high schools in Bullitt County were designated as "Distinguished."

Bullitt East High School was named one of the Top 10 best-performing high schools in Kentucky.

Oldham County Schools continues to land among the top districts in the state, ranked 10th overall.

It's one of 16 districts in the state ranked as "Distinguished."

Eleven of the district's 16 schools scored at the distinguished level, the same as last year.
