Lexington Police concerned about traffic, parking for upcoming UK / Auburn matchup

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- It will be the first Thursday night football game at UK since 1939.

Next Thursday, Oct. 15, the Wildcats will host the Auburn University Tigers at the newly renovated Commonwealth Stadium. While university and Lexington officials are excited about the exposure for the school, UK and the city are expecting some problems as the school hits the national spotlight

."Please plan ahead," said Lexington Police Chief Mark Barnard.

"You know that there's some parking that's gonna go over into the neighborhoods," Barnard said. "We're asking students if you're doing that, please be careful with the signage, because the residents that live in those neighborhoods expect to have those streets freed up."

Football won't be the only reason for traffic gridlock. Keeneland is also running races at the track that day.
