Second man connected to fatal shooting in downtown Louisville

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The search is still on for a gunman who shot and killed a man near the Smoketown neighborhood early Monday afternoon.

It happened just after noon on Oct. 5 in the 400 block of Marret Avenue, off South Preston Street.

Witnesses say they thought they heard firecrackers, and saw a group of men running from the scene. Police found the victim between two buildings.

The victim, who appears to be his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. He has not yet been identified.

Authorities call this another senseless murder.

"Every one is far too common for us, and I believe this is number 60 the way it is," said LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell. "And really, the number is not what concerns me, because even if it was just one, it's one too many. Certainly one thing we cannot legislate, and that's morality."

Police say another man showed up at University Hospital not long after the murder with a gunshot wound. Detectives now say that man is connected to Monday's shooting, but exactly how is still under investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call the LMPD crime tipline at 574-LMPD (574-5673) Callers can remain anonymous.
