LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — In a sign that NCAA investigators are moving quickly to examine the claims made in Katina Powell’s book, “Breaking Cardinal Rules,” in which she alleges former University of Louisville director of basketball operations Andre McGee hired her to provide escorts for recruits, Yahoo! Sports reported Wednesday afternoon that the NCAA has interviewed JaQuan Lyle.

Lyle, a recruit out of Evansville, who bounced through a couple of verbal commitments before heading to Ohio State University, spoke with investigators in the presence of OSU compliance officials, according to Yahoo!

Dan Wallenberg, Ohio State associate athletic director for communications told Yahoo! Sports’ Pat Forde that Lyle spoke to the NCAA about potential rules violations in the Louisville program.

“It does not affect us or JaQuan at all,” Wallenberg told Yahoo!. “We’ve been told, and are pretty confident, this is not something we need to worry about.”

In the book, Powell says she brought three escorts to meet with Lyle in June of 2013 while he was on a recruiting trip to campus.

In the passage of the book that pertains to him: Powell writes, “McGee texted me like, what’s up? He wanted me to bring three girls up there for a new recruit named JaQuan Lyle, he and his friend. I took (escorts) Rod-Ni, TooTall, Jazmine and Shay, who calls herself Sammi. TooTall made $100, Shay made $100, and Jazzy made nothing because she did absolutely nothing."

The book also includes a purported text exchange between Powell and McGee:

Powell: Hey Andre what was the name of the recruit tall chic was with Saturday.

McGee: jaquan lyles (sic) … some other dudes looking for tall chic

The book says the text message exchange between McGee and Powell about Lyle contains 22 texts, but does not give the full exchange.

Lyle committed to U of L in late June, but less than a month later decommitted. He at one point was headed to Oregon, but finally wound up at Ohio State.
