LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Shepherdsville woman faces animal cruelty charges after leaving her dog in a car unattended.

According to the arrest report, Brooke Summers was arrested Wednesday after she left her 6-month-old Chihuahua puppy alone in her vehicle, which resulted in the dog's death.

Police say the vehicle was parked on S. 7th Street for about an hour. The passenger side window was left open and the puppy was tied to a bucket inside the vehicle.

Police say at some point while Summers was away, the dog jumped from the window of the vehicle. However, the tether tied to its  collar wasn't long enough and the dog died from apparent asphyxiation.

The arrest report says Summers' neglect to provide proper care for the dog resulted in its death.

Louisville Metro Animal Services investigated the case.

Summers is expected in court for arraignment Thursday. She faces one count of 2nd Degree Cruelty to Animals.
