LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB) – When it comes to creating that perfect baseball logo, Dan Simon knows he can’t afford to strike out
“It’s vitally important,” said Simon. “That logo speaks for the team and what it says, speaks loudly."
It’s Simon’s responsibility to capture that voice. Whether it is with something traditional or something a little more animated.
“I sit down with a pencil and paper, the old fashion way. Then, I take it into the computer and work it out digitally until we have artwork that is the best in the business.”
Business has been booming for Simon ever since he opened up his company, “Studio Simon” back in 2001. Since then, he’s designed logos for minor league baseball teams across the country.
And oh yeah, a couple of Super Bowls too.
But Dan doesn't only design the logo. He's also involved in the entire creative process, from picking the team's colors to designing the team's uniform.
“Everything from head to toe,” he says while wearing a Toledo Walleye jersey, one of the many hockey logos he has created.
For Simon, there’s nothing like seeing the finished product out in the real world.
“It’s kind of cool having that person there and not knowing the person that created it (the logo) is right there standing next to them. That’s fun."
Because at the end of the day, Simon knows he’s not designing for the owners or even himself. He’s designing for the fan.
