Metro Council announces effort to promote breast cancer awareness month

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Council President David Tandy announced Thursday the Historic City Hall Clock Tower will be lit up in pink for the entire month of October.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Tandy says lighting the Clock Tower is part of the larger effort to remind people of the importance of early detection of breast cancer.

The Metro Council is working closely with the Louisville Chapter of the American Cancer Society to encourage men and women to get their annual screenings.

"The truth is one more woman diagnosed is one less than we want to hear. We envision a world cancer-free, all cancers, including breast cancer. October is a fabulous month to work on prevention, detection, and eventually a cure," said Melinda Townsend-Breslin with the Louisville Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

The Metro Council Chamber has also been decorated with pink ribbons for council meetings in October.
