LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- West Buechel Police say they've arrested a woman who was out drinking and driving while her seven-year-old son was home alone.

According to an arrest report, police saw 34-year-old Rachel Cappelli driving a 2005 white Mitsubishi Outlander "at a high rate of speed" on Bardstown Road, near Bashford Manor Lane, just before 3 a.m. Friday.

When police stopped Cappelli, the smell of alcohol was detected coming from her vehicle, according to an arrest report. Cappelli allegedly told officers that she had just left Nowhere Bar in the Highlands, and had consumed a couple of beers.

According to the arrest report, an officer saw an open container of alcohol "in plain view" in her car.

Police say Cappelli had bloodshot eyes, slightly slurred speech, and was unsteady on her feet.

Cappelli allegedly told police that her seven-year-old son was home alone.

Police called Child Protective Services and Graymoor-Devondale Police took the child to his aunt's house for the rest of the evening.

Cappelli, on the other hand, was taken to Louisville Metro Corrections. She is charged with speeding, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle and endangering the welfare of a minor.
