LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man has been arrested after police say he robbed an area gas station -- and his weapon of choice was a syringe.

According to an arrest warrant, it happened on Oct. 4, at the Speedway at 1422 Poplar Level Road.

Police say 25-year-old Matthew Medley walked into the store and immediately stepped behind the counter, grabbing cartons of cigarettes. When two employees confronted him, he allegedly brandished the needle and raised it, as if threatening to stab the employees.

According to the arrest warrant, Medley "was making stabbing motions with the syringe and stated to the employees that if they didn't get back, he would give them HIV."

Police say he had a razor blade in his other hand.

After taking the cigarettes, he fled the scene, according to police.

Police say the robbery was recorded on surveillance video, and several officers recognized Medley. Additionally, police say, a Speedway employee was shown a photo of Medley and they told officers it "closely resembles" the robber.

A warrant was issued for Medley's arrest on Wednesday, Oct. 7, and he was taken into custody the following day. He is charged with first degree robbery.
