LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Just a day before the Ironman competition, thousands raced Saturday in support of those fighting cancer.

Louisville Slugger Field hosted the city's 20th annual "Race for the Cure."

Women, men and children dressed up in pink, showing their support for those who've survived breast cancer or lost their battle to the disease.

Two women from southern Indiana want others to know about early detection. especially in the younger generations.

"I was 37 when I was diagnosed, and I did a self breast exam, and that's how I found my lump," Kim Minzenberger said. "And I just encourage young women that are not able to get a mammogram yet to do that self breast exam."

Seventy-five percent of the net income from the race in invested locally for research and education.
