Woman talks about ex-husband's murder, despite silence from Jeffersonville Police

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WDRB) -- Jeffersonville Police have been investigating a murder for four days, but will not say where it happened or who was killed.

But one woman says the victim is her ex-husband.

Yvonne Casey sat down with WDRB on Sunday and explained the confusion surrounding her ex-husband’s murder and an unusual arrest.

“I had to go tell my daughter that her dad was murdered," Casey said.

Casey is referring to her ex-husband, Earl Cave, Jr., who just celebrated his 60th birthday and recently walked one of his daughters down the aisle.

That daughter is the one who called Casey saying Earl had been killed.

Casey says she and her ex-husband remained friends. He recently helped her move and would frequently visit during holidays.

Earl's other daughter, who's 17, was too traumatized to go on camera.

"It's kinda strange, you know, that we're not getting any kind of information on it," Casey said. "So we just want some closure."

Jeffersonville Police are not giving much information on Earl's death. In fact, they haven't even confirmed he's a victim.

"There's just something not right," Casey said.

The only thing officers are saying publicly is that a homicide investigation started on Thursday, Oct. 8. They won’t even say where it happened.

But Earl's family says he lived at King Solomon Apartments off 10th Street and was last seen Wednesday morning getting his mail. Crime tape is still lodged in his door.

"It's a real sad thing what happened," neighbor Pamela Timbs said. "It's tragic, you know, because he was so sweet and kind,"

She said that an officer came out to Earl’s place on Thursday for a welfare check.

"He kept banging and banging and banging, and I stood out here with him for a while, and there was no answer," Timbs said.

Timbs says someone from the maintenance office finally opened the door.

"And that's where they found him," she said.

Casey says Earl's son, Darren Cave, lived with his father in the apartment and his neighbor confirmed that.

Police have not made any arrests in Earl Cave's death, but according to police records, officers arrested Darren Cave, 33, the day after Earl Cave was killed.

Darren is now charged with battery, battery against a public safety officer and possession of cocaine.

Yvonne just hopes she and her daughter find something out soon.

"My daughter wants some kind of answers, you know, closure," Casey said. "And it's tearing us apart right now,"

As for the homicide investigation, Jeffersonville Police say they've been talking with a person of interest and are closer to charging someone with murder.
