LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Louisville Metro Police have arrested a man authorities say stabbed a man in the chest.

John Mann was arrested Friday afternoon in the 12000 block of Alma Lynn Drive, near National Turnpike in Fairdale.

The official police warrant says that Mann allegedly stabbed a male victim two times in the chest with a knife on July 25. Authorities say the victim is friends with Mann's ex-girlfriend.

Officials say the victim's girlfriend had been experiencing trouble with Mann over the course of several months.

Police say on the date of the stabbing, Mann went to his ex-girlfriend's home to confront her. Police records say Mann's ex-girlfriend and the victim left and when they came back, Mann was still waiting on the porch. Mann was waiting in the dark and he allegedly unscrewed the porch's light bulb, according to police.

Officials say the woman ran inside her home. Mann and the victim began to argue, and the situation escalated into a physical altercation, according to police.

Police say Mann then stabbed the victim two times in the chest and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to U of L Hospital to be treated for stab wounds. Police say one of the victim's lungs collapsed. The man had to be taken into surgery and have his spleen removed. Authorities say one of the victim's heart valves was damaged.

Officials say the victim remains in the hospital in intensive care.

Mann is charged with first-degree assault. He is being held at Louisville Metro Corrections on a $50,000 cash bond.

He was arraigned in court on Saturday.
