Kentucky Pastors coalition demands charter schools, says JCPS not doing enough for students

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Before Monday night's board meeting, several Louisville pastors stood  outside saying the district is not doing enough for education equality.

"We are advocating and demanding the charter schools, the next governor of the Commonwealth that they make a commitment to us that they will champion public charter school in 2016," Pastor Jerry Stephenson said.

The Kentucky pastors in action coalition has put together an online petition, asking families to support charter schools.

They say that JCPS is failing students and that some in the fourth grade can't even read or do simple math.

The group also voiced its support for former JCPS chief academic officer Dewey Hensley who quit last week. In his resignation letter, he said JCPS is more concerned about its image than helping children.
