Ribbon cut on new Kentucky National Guard facility

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A lot is being done to celebrate a new $25 million home.

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear was on hand to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Kentucky National Guard's new Army Aviation Support facility.

The new hangars and office space in Frankfort are replacing an older facility built in 1971.

The new UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter was also rolled out on Wednesday.

The facility will serve as the home for the National Guard's fleet and crew.

"We're here to celebrate more than a building or a helicopter. It's about our organization and it's the people, the citizens and airmen who say yes to the governor when he calls and yes to the nation when they need us," said Major General Edward Tonin, a Kentucky Adjutant General.

Construction started last fall on the facility, which includes the latest energy-efficient technology.
