LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Police have arrested a man after they say he collected thousands of dollars from American Airlines after he allegedly lied about his luggage being lost.

According to an arrest warrant, it happened on July 30. That's when police say 30-year-old Blake Patterson reported to Baggage Claim Services that his luggage, which he said was valued at $3,761, was lost. Although records indicated that his bag had arrived and was scanned in Louisville, Patterson told officials he never received it.

Patterson was issued a check for $3,400.

During a subsequent investigation, officials discovered that Patterson had been captured on video picking up the luggage he reported stolen.

Patterson was arrested on Oct. 14 and charged with one count of theft by deception.
