LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Indiana Governor Mike Pence has unveiled a $30 million road project in southern Indiana.
"This is one of the most exciting industrial development regions in the United States of America," Pence said during a news conference.
The new road will link the East End Crossing, the River Ridge Commerce Center and the Port of Indiana. A wide, heavy haul road will be built to transport raw materials from the port to the commerce center.
And the east end bridge will lead drivers directly to that same road.
Wendy Dant Chesser, president of One Southern Indiana, says the project will help attract more businesses.
"When companies look to expand in a new location, they want to know that there's land available, that there's a workforce available to their markets," Chesser said.
The road is just Phase One of the project. The rail portion could begin once it's complete.
State officials expect the project to be complete by this time next year.
