LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Hwang's Martial Arts held the 29th annual World Taekwondo Championship on Saturday.

It was held at Broadbent Area in Louisville and brought out 800 competitors.

Organizers say the goal of the family-friendly event is to make sure people connect with their body.

No matter where they place, kids earn three-foot trophies.

"It's not about kicking and punching," instructor John Zeydel said. "It's about the mental focus of martial arts."

Participants sparred, broke boards and showed off their forms.

Black belts also competed in weapons.

Next year, they plan to have about 2,000 competitors from all over the world, including China, Korea and Nepal.
