LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The trial is underway for a man charged with driving drunk and causing a crash that killed a 5-month-old.

Police say James O'Bannon was driving with a suspended license when the crash happened in March of 2014. Authorities say he ran a stop sign and hit a van carrying five-month-old twins Avani and La-Niya Ingram, their mother and several other people.

Avani later died at Kosair Children's Hospital. La-Niya was hospitalized.

LaTonya Woodist's teenage daughter was also hurt in the crash.

"I feel like if he had charges, he needs to pay the consequences for what he did," Woodist said. "I'm not saying give him the death penalty, but he needs to think about things before he drinks and drives again," said LaTonya Woodist, whose daughter was also injured in the crash. "Not only did he affect my child, he affected two other families."

O'Bannon is charged with murder, operating a motor vehicle under the influence and being a persistent felony offender.
