LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- A Louisville man and woman are facing charges after police say they left three young children unattended in a vehicle while they were shopping.

According to an arrest report, it happened Sunday around 2:30 p.m. That's when officers were called to the 7th Street Flea Market on reports of children left in a vehicle. By the time officers arrived, a crowd had gathered around the black jeep.

Police say there were three small children inside ranging in age from less than a month to 4 years old. Police say witnesses told them the children had been in the vehicle for more than an hour. Officers were on scene for almost 20 minutes before the parents -- Lauren Morales and Angela Morales, both 27 -- arrived. Police say they activated their emergency equipment lights to draw attention to the scene so the parents would see it.

When EMS arrived on scene a few minutes later, they advised police that the temperature of the youngest child was 101.2 degrees and rising.

According to the arrest report, it was 60 degrees and sunny, but "the vehicle was parked in full sunlight and the sky was completely clear."

Police say the older children were dressed in long pants and coats. The baby was wrapped in a blanket in the car seat.

The children were taken to Kosair Children's Hospital to be checked out.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with abandonment of a minor and wanton endangerment.
