Louisville Metro Council to vote on change to public nuisance ordinance

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -

Louisville's Metro Council will vote later this week on whether to change the city's public nuisance ordinance.

Officials say the law will become more effective, making it harder for the Economy Inn on Bardstown Road to stay open.

The effort was spearheaded by Councilman Steve Magre (D-District 10) who represents that district. City leaders say it could also help with other problematic businesses.

Councilman David James (D-District 6) says Louisville Metro Police officers contacted him about how hard it's been to shut down shops selling synthetic drugs.

"It was becoming very problematic and, of course, spice is dangerous to our kids and our citizens and so they were looking for a way to add more teeth to their ability to deal with their businesses," James said.

On Monday, the Greater Louisville Hotel and Lodging Association gave the go-ahead for the ordinance changes.
Metro Council will vote Thursday.
