LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Heading toward penalty kicks, Assumption Freshman Hannah Hennessey took a through-ball and put it in the far left corner of the goal to give Assumption a 3-2 double-overtime victory over fellow top ten rival Manual in the Girls 7th Region Semi-Finals at the Assumption Green. The Rockets move on to Friday's 6:00 pm final against Sacred Heart, a 2-0 winner over Male.
Rachael Reisert scored for Assumption to tie the game at 1 at halftime after Allison Whitfield had given the Crimsons a 1-0 lead. McKenzie Riggs made it 2-1 for the home team converting an early second half penalty kick. It remained that way, thanks to several big saves from Ellie Coke until just under four minutes remained when Manual Junior Star Emina Ekic blasted a volley into the top right-hand corner of the net. Coke made a sliding save on Ekic with ten seconds left to force overtime.
Assumption moved to 16-5-3 on the year. They will host the region final against the Valkyries. Assumption won the only meeting between the two, 2-1 on September 27th. Manual finishes the season at 15-5 with three of those losses, all by a goal, coming to the Rockets.
In the 6th region Mercy beat Bullitt Central 10-0 and Bullitt East beat North Bullitt 4-3. The Jaguars will host the region title game at 4:00 pm Saturday against the Chargers.
