BARDSTOWN, Ky. (WDRB) -- A judge gives more jail time to a former teacher who admitted a sexual relationship with a middle school student.

Thursday, a circuit judge in Nelson County sentenced Scott Quisenberry to five years in prison as part of a plea deal.

The term will run concurrently with a 15-year sentence from Jefferson County on charges involving the same student.

Court records said Quisenberry had encounters with the student almost 40 times over three years.

In July, a jury in Louisville convicted Quisenberry on rape and sodomy charges. In September, a circuit judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison.

In a separate case in August, Quisenberry agreed to an Alford plea to charges of rape and unlawful transaction with a minor in Nelson County. The deal included the five-year sentences for each charge to run concurrently with the Jefferson County sentences.

An Alford plea is treated as a guilty plea in the Kentucky legal system. It allowed Quisenberry to concede the state had enough evidence to convict him, without his admitting the crimes.

Quisenberry had a three-year relationship with one of his students, which began in 2009, when the student was 12-years-old. He was a teacher at Bullitt Lick Middle School in Bullitt County before moving to Kerrick Elementary School with JCPS.
