JCPS: Threat against Ballard High School was never credible

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- The all-clear was given at Ballard High School after it was placed on heightened alert Friday following a threat against the school.

JCPS officials said the threat was never credible, but spokesperson Bonnie Hackbarth says police searched the school and extra security was brought in to make sure everyone was safe.

Ballard notified parents and students Thursday night via social media.

Friday morning Hackbarth sent the following message to parents giving the all-clear.

Ballard Families:
I wanted to give you an update to my message from last night.  JCPS Security has issued the “all clear” at Ballard, and your children are safe.  We have identified the source of the upsetting rumors that students were hearing that caused them – and you – to be concerned.  We now know there was no threat, but we worked with JCPS Security to be proactive to ensure safety and address concerns.  Please remind students to tell an adult if they hear something that worries them so that we can address it.  We all have the same goal — to keep our students and staff safe and secure so they can focus on learning.  Thank you for your support.
