LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- One man is dead after he tried to walk across I-65 in Jackson County, Ind., early Saturday morning.

John Wade Adams, 52, of Seymour, was hit and killed by a 2012 Volvo semi tractor while crossing the I-65 southbound lanes.

The Jackson County Sheriff's Department says the Volvo was pulling a box trailer for Rush Transport.

Adams was hit in the passing lane and landed more than 100 feet away over the cable barrier on the northbound side of the median.

Family members told police Adams was walking back to his residence at the Days Inn after getting money from a family member who works at Aisin Manufacturing about two miles from the crash site.

The of the tractor trailer, Dead Hadziefendic, 52, of Louisville, said he was unable to avoid hitting Adams.

Police say toxicology screenings will be done on both men and that Hadziefendic had cooperated fully with the investigation.
