President Obama outlines new testing recommendations for schools

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- President Obama says children spend too much time taking school exams that he calls "unnecessary."

The Obama administration is announcing a new testing action plan. It outlines new principles for measuring student aptitude, but doesn't roll back any part of "No Child Left Behind."

They are recommendations for school districts to follow but are not binding regulations.

The administration recommends no child spends more than two percent of classroom time taking standardized tests.

The White House says additional details will be released in January.
