LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Triple Crown winner American Pharoah drew the No. 4 post and was made a 6-5 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland.

But the first Triple Crown winner ever to run in the Classic will have plenty of competition in the 1 1/4 miles, including the Dale Romans-trained Keen Ice, who beat him in his last start in the Travers Stakes at Saratoga in Augusts, and the fantastic mare Beholder, the 3-1 second choice who will break from post position No. 10. Beholder is seeking to become the first to win three different Breeders’ Cup races.

Shug McCaughey’s Honor Code was made the co-third choice at 6-1, along with the Cristophe Clement-trained Tonalist. Honor Code will break from the No. 9 spot, with Tonalist drawing the rail.

American Pharoah will travel to Keeneland on Tuesday after his final pre-race work at Santa Anita Park on Monday morning — 46.6 seconds for a half mile with Martin Garcia aboard.

Ahmed Zayat, his owner, Tweeted, “Wow! The beast is READY!”

Trainer Bob Baffert got a bit emotional, thinking about American Pharoah’s final career workout. He won’t return to California, but instead will go to his retirement home — Ashford Stud — after Saturday’s race.

“Walking up here, I was getting a little bit emotional," Baffert told ESPN. "I was excited to watch him work, and got a little bit nervous about the work, so I was talking to Martin the whole way around. But to see him come down the stretch breezing that last time -- it was great the way he was doing it; I was happy the way he was doing it -- but a little piece of me said, 'it's a little bit sad.'

"I'm so proud of the horse. What he's done for me and my staff and the Zayats -- it's just an incredible feeling."
